چکیده

This paper presents an initial implementation of a Virtual Ultrasound Imaging System as an interactive educational tool for students and researchers in the medical ultrasound imaging field. The system uses a cause and effect approach for understanding the results of changing transducer attributes and pulse parameters on the quality of the ultrasound image. The elements of the system include Field II simulation program, MATLAB computational environment, and computer generated test phantoms. The system allows the user to change the array type (linear, convex, and phased), the array parameters (e.g., the number of elements and the element dimensions), the pulse parameters (center frequency and bandwidth), and the phantom type. An easy to use graphical user interface has also been developed to facilitate the use of the virtual ultrasound system. The system should prove valuable for teaching and research purposes. Keywords— FIELD II, Medical Ultrasound, Ultrasound Phantoms, Ultrasound Transducers, Virtual Ultrasound Imaging System.

Real-time virtual sonography using MRI and ultrasound fusion imaging in the evaluation of CNS anomalies

Objective Over the last years prenatal ultrasound has experienced the benefits of high resolution probes and the use of transvaginal ultrasound to facilitate the difficult diagnosis of central nervous system anomalies. In addition fetal MRI has become a part of a complementary tool in establishing and fine tuning the diagnosis and prognosis. Both techniques deliver their maximal potential in th...

Design, Evaluation and Prototyping of a New Robotic Mechanism for Ultrasound Imaging

This paper presents a new robotic mechanism for ultrasound imaging. The device is placed on a patient's body by an operator, and an ultrasound expert controls the motions of the device to obtain ultrasound images. The paper focuses on the robotic mechanism that performs ultrasound imaging. The design of the mechanism is based on two approaches to produce center of motion for an ultrasound probe...

Feasibility study of ultrasound imaging for stereotactic body radiation therapy with active breathing coordinator in pancreatic cancer

PURPOSE Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) allows for high radiation doses to be delivered to the pancreatic tumors with limited toxicity. Nevertheless, the respiratory motion of the pancreas introduces major uncertainty during SBRT. Ultrasound imaging is a non-ionizing, non-invasive, and real-time technique for intrafraction monitoring. A configuration is not available to place the ult...

Virtual Navigation – A New Modality in Perioperative Brain Tumor Imaging

Ultrasound (US) is gradually gaining in importance in neurosurgery alongside perioperative CT/MRI as a useful tool for imaging brain lesions preand perioperatively. The basic examination currently involves two-dimensional ultrasound imaging (B-mode). To improve and refine orientation within the operating field, 3D ultrasound imaging using computer-aided reconstruction of a series of consecutive...
